The octagonal to be shown base with a central decorated column have 4 seated hand carved and polychrome decorated seated lions each one resting one raised paw on its shield. The lion carved in a very characterful way with amusing expressions.The gilt painted mane showing movement.
The columns are decorated with great detail . Each of the eight sides are built up with gesso and polychrome to create reveals,depth and inverted panels all for the handpainting and ribbed surfaces.
Halfway up the column there is a spherical knee again decorated continuing up to a capitol decorated on the underside with gesso polychromed maidens heads and flowers.
The patina and aging of these torchieres adds to their beauty. Utterly charming
